Our Sanctuary
UBC gathered in its sanctuary for the first time on March 4, 1973. The room’s design expresses the church’s call to openness. The walls behind the pulpit are sliding glass doors, an important reminder that our story is one of openness to all.
The church’s love for creativity can be seen in the paintings hanging in the sanctuary, given to the church by Charles M. Clark. Clark, whose parents were UBC members, donated the set of biblical scenes and figures to the church upon their completion for an assignment at the University of Mississippi.
Musical creativity also enhances UBC’s worshiping body. In 1974 UBC member and University of Montevallo professor Dr. Ed Robertson dedicated the hymn “To Be a People” to his church family. Dr. Robertson composed the hymn with the spirit of the church’s covenant and objectives in mind.
“To Be a People”
To be a fellowship that worships God and gives him thanks day by day. To be committed to a risen Lord, to let his life guide our way. To be a people who love our God with heart and soul, mind and strength. A people who love our neighbors as ourselves. We want to be. Lord, help us to be.
